How to migrate to a Next-gen project in Jira Service Desk

Atlassian introduced next-gen projects for Jira and Jira Service Desk. They mean to simplify the project configuration experience for administrators and end-users.

However, the current functionality of the next-gen projects does not allow importing JSON or CSV files. So if you, set up a Demo Migration with us and received this error, there’s a high chance you’re migrating to a next-gen project.

You can check the type of the project in the left sidebar:

There’s a workaround if you still want to migrate data to the next-gen project. First, you need to create a classic project in your Jira Service Desk. Then, import your data to the classic project. And lastly, migrate data between classic and next-gen project.

How to create a Classic project

Open a next-gen project, select Project Settings>Advanced. There you will see an option to create a new Classic service desk project.

We’ll keep up with the updates to see if Atlassian decides to extend the functionality of next-gen projects. As for now, please use the workaround above, or contact us if you have any questions.
