In this video, we’ll guide you through switching from a company-managed to a team-managed project in Jira Service Management. While team-managed projects don’t support direct CSV or JSON imports, you can still move your data with a few simple steps.
Start by importing data into a company-managed project.
From there, use Jira’s built-in solution to migrate this data to your team-managed project. Before beginning, ask a Jira admin to grant the “Make bulk changes” global permission. Here’s how:
- Go to “Settings” and find “Global Permissions” under the “System” section.
- Scroll down, select “Make bulk changes,” and assign it to the appropriate user group. Click “Add.”
Once the permission is set, you’re ready to migrate:
- Go to “Filters” and select “All Issues.”
- Apply the Project filter and choose the project to migrate from.
- In the top-right, click the three-dot menu and choose “Bulk Change All.”
- Follow the Bulk Operation wizard to select and transfer issues to the team-managed project, map each issue’s status, and confirm the summary.
Key points to consider during migration:
- Active sprints won’t migrate; issues will move to the backlog instead.
- Epic links and custom fields won’t transfer, so you need to re-add them manually.
- Story points estimation and velocity reports will be lost.
- Project and issue keys will change during the migration, and old links will be redirected.
This guide covers each step to ensure a smooth transition from company-managed to team-managed projects in Jira, with practical tips to help you manage your data effectively.
