Whether you are moving cause you don’t like the new Kayako, or if you plan on using something different, chances are you want to move your old data to, say, Freshservice. In any case, if you’ve decided to import from Kayako to Freshservice but realized that things are a little bit, how should we put it, complicated. Well, you are not the only one. The process is more than complex and requires you to allocate a whole day just to get the gist of it. But what if we told you that you don’t really need to do it the “usual” way. What if there is a method that trumps all the other methods. Join us as we take a look at all possible options of transfers between Kayako and Freshservice.
Moving Data The Usual Way
If you want to import data from Kayako the usual way, your best bet would be to head over to the export options and temper with the settings. Since Kayako was updated not-so-long-ago, you might think that the process will be streamlined and you will be able to move all your stuff in minutes. But nope, that is not the case and its not about Kayako themselves. It’s about the fact that Freshservice and Kayako have different architectures and there is no way both will work without edits.
Take for instance naming conventions. New Kayako (or old for that matter) has fields Freshservice doesn’t. This makes moving certain bits of information quite tricky as things don’t exactly line up. Thankfully, if you want to import a ticket from Kayako, you can just issue a report by finding it on the left sidebar. It will generate a file that you can use to import but keep in mind that you have to edit that file too.
If you want to import contacts from Kayako, the story is also a bit different. Technically, you have two options. One is, the now traditional, via file method, and the other is, of course, the API. Speaking of, you can move just about anything with the API, the only downside of this method is that it is quite the hassle to deal with. And you know, it is one of those methods where if you don’t know how to code, it can be mega expensive. Especially if you are starting from scratch and try to learn all the data dependencies on your own.
Using A Free App
This is a popular option as it doesn’t involve any credit card shenanigans and it presumably does what it should. But hear us out, there’s gotta be a catch, right? And there is! Its called the quality of the transfer.
It’s just how this world works. Now, let that sink into you for a moment. See where this is going? That’s right, nowhere! Free solutions barely work and if they do, they will most likely end-up corrupting your data which is not worth it.
